Scout Hut Appeal

The 8th Wakefield Scout Group is a self contained group owning its own property and land. We have all the maintenance, general running costs and utility bills of any normal property. The group has some sixty children ranging from 6 to 14 years old, many of which come from local and surrounding areas, as well has having an extensive waiting list. The group is supported by volunteer leaders, parents and executive committee. The hut is also used by a couple of community groups including the wine circle and morris dancers. The Hut is located near the Cricket field at Horbury Bridge.
Horbury Scouts could get a new state-of-the-art Scout Hut, if funding for the project can be secured.

About £120,000 is needed for the new building, which will incorporate a main hall, kitchen, toilet facilities, disabled access and a meeting room available for hire. It will be located on the site currently used by 8th Wakefield Scouts and organisers are hoping grant funding and community fund-raising will be secured to help them to achieve their dream.

The current hall, which has been used by Scouts of all ages since 1950’s, is in a terrible state and hasn't been updated for many years, although many repairs have been carried out recently just to keep it usable. Over recent months it has become evident that the roof has started to leak and the heating does not always work. The condition of the hall really limits the type of activities we can offer.

"The 8th Wakefield is approximately 84 years old, we hope the new building will see us in to the next 100 years." Although the building will be a Scout hall it will also be for use for the whole community as it will be purpose built for hiring out to other groups and users during the daytime
